This moderation action adds the name change restricted role to the user for the selected duration. This action does not delete any selected messages, but attaches them to the action in the moderation log.
- This action has no effect if the name change restricted role is not set in the Role assignment panel.
- If the user is already name change restricted then this will extend the duration of their existing restriction.
- Discord roles and permissions can’t prevent users from changing the username or display name set on their Discord account. A secondary action, such as Rename user can be defined in the name changes filter to handle excessive display name changes.
Reversing the restriction
Reversing this action will remove the name change restricted role from the user and reinstate any other roles that may have been affected by the restriction. The original action will remain in their history.
- Reversing a name change restriction will reset that user’s name change count to 0.
Persistence
Name change restrictions will remain in place if the user leaves the server and comes back.
Security
Restricting name changes requires that the Bot user has the ‘Restrict name changes’ authority.
- Reversing a name change restriction requires that the Bot user has the ‘Unrestrict name changes’ authority.
