Name change timeframe
If a timeframe is selected, Discord users who change their names excessively within this period will be moderated according to the following settings.
Max name changes within the timeframe
This sets the upper limit of acceptable name changes within the above timeframe.
- Both manual and automated moderation actions that change another user’s name do not increase their name change counter.
- Hovering over a user’s name in their profile will show their current name change counter.
Excessive name changes action
This action will be automatically applied to non-immune Discord users who change their server nickname more than the maximum number of times within the stipulated timeframe. If no action is selected then no auto moderation actions will apply to name changes. Potential action choices include:
- Rename user to auto-rename the user to an arbitrary username.
- Restrict name changes to assign a role that prevents the user from changing their name for a preset duration.
Excessive account name changes action
Discord roles and permissions can’t prevent users from changing the username or display name on their Discord account. If a Discord user doesn’t have a server profile or nickname in a server then changes to their display name will result in their changed display name being used in that server. The action here can be selected to address users who bypass name change limits using this method. The recommended action to use in this case is rename user.
- This is optional. If not specified the Bot will simply apply the previous excessive name changes action (if this is specified).
Excessive name changes reason
This reason will accompany the excessive name changes action. If no reason is selected then no auto moderation actions will apply to name changes. This applies to both of the above actions.
Security
Name changes filter modification requires that the Bot user has the ‘Change automod settings’ authority.
